Our Portuguese guide was wonderful, and the local guides were excellent, giving local insight that can be hard to find. Great food and wine throughout this stimulating and energetic "detour" of Portugal and the Azores. I highly recommend this fun cultural experience.

This tour to Normandy will be held dearly in my heart as one of the most remarkable experience I have ever had. At 75 years old I have had many remarkable experiences in my life but this tour, this extraordinary group of fellow travelers, and I emphasize extraordinary, is one that I will never forget. I learned so much, I witnessed so much that you will not read about in revisionist history books. Again, I go back to my fellow travelers and their free flowing discussions (thank you Randy!) made every moment we were together very rich. Hats of to Dressler DETOURS for all the planning, logistics, attention to detail, and very importantly, Christoph and Taunya make you feel cared for. They keep participants under 20 and this is part of the magic of a Dressler tour. If you haven't been on a Dressler tour - do! Gregory Geilmann
Normandy
Dear Greg, Your words truly mean the world to us. Thank you—not only for this beautiful review, but for choosing to travel with us again. Knowing that, after a lifetime of remarkable experiences, Normandy stands among your most memorable is an incredible honor. Curious travelers like you (and yes, Randy! 😊) are what make these journeys so much more than sightseeing—they become shared learning experiences and lasting friendships. Thank you for your trust, your enthusiasm, and the generosity you bring to every group. We can't wait to see where our next detour together takes us! Warmly, Christoph & Taunya

My trip with Dressler Detours was absolutely wonderful. I have always wanted to visit Portugal and Daniel and Taunya planned a great and well-paced itinerary. The small group size was perfect and it felt like I was traveling with a group of good friends. The local guides were very informative and interesting. The accommodations were lovely and the restaurants were fabulous. I am already looking at the options for more travel with Dressler Detours.

We did enjoy the trip. Positives: Bayeux is extremely charming, beautiful and quite a pleasant experience for those of us who had spent time in Paris before the Normandy tour. The tour of the cathedral in Bayeux was fabulous. The housing and transportations were wonderful/great. We got to every place /museum/site listed on our itinerary, all of which were important parts of the overall enjoyment. The imprint of Cristoph and Dressler was felt and was good. We enjoyed the other people on the trip quite. bit. Randy is pleasant and tried very hard to accommodate everyone and worked hard after being "thrown into the fire." Negatives: I appreciate it was no one's fault, but it is simply not fair to compare Randy to Steve Hall. But I will mention some differences. Randy knows less than 1% of what Steve knows vis-a-vis D-day, WWII and Normandy, so the education/learning part of the trip was severely compromised.. Randy's personal anecdotes and Greek mythology orations were way too long. He had trouble controlling the group in terms of keeping to a time schedule - Steve would have adhered to the schedule. I also felt the "Honor" part of the trip mantra was minimal. If I hadn't suggested a moment of silence on Omaha beach, it would not have happened. The American cemetery was chaotic and experience at the selected graves was pro forma - little feeling of honoring the dead. Again, Steve Hall was greatly missed for the above negative comments. Scorecard: Honor: D; Learn: F; Enjoy: B-
Normandy
Dear Paul, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, and for recognizing so many of the things that made the trip enjoyable. It was wonderful to hear that you enjoyed Bayeux, the itinerary, the accommodations, and especially the friendships that developed along the way. As you know, just one week before departure we were faced with an unexpected medical emergency that left Steve unable to lead the tour. At that point, we had two choices: cancel a trip that everyone had been planning for months or find someone willing to step in with only a few days' notice. Randy graciously volunteered to do just that. We completely understand your observation that Randy is not Steve. Steve's knowledge of Normandy, D-Day, and the Second World War is the result of decades of study, research, and pure passion, and there simply isn't anyone who can duplicate that experience on a week's notice. While Randy holds a Ph.D. in Classical History and came to the trip well-read on World War II, his greatest contribution was making sure the tour could still happen and that our guests were able to experience Normandy rather than face a last-minute cancellation. We're deeply grateful to Randy for his willingness to step in under such difficult circumstances, and we're equally grateful for your understanding during what was an unusual situation for all of us. We appreciate your thoughtful feedback and will certainly take your comments about the educational and commemorative aspects of the experience to heart as we continue to improve our tours. Thank you again for traveling with us, and we hope we'll have the opportunity to travel together again under happier—and less eventful—circumstances. Warmly, Christoph & Taunya
